I need some critiques/opinions on a song I made. I think I’m gonna call it “(All my friends are dead, I’m) Going Home”

Right now my thoughts are that the middle “Chill and Groove” section is a little sparse. I mean, I’ve introduced all the elements and they’re all jiving well together, it’s just that I think a little variation would do well there, I just don’t know what to do with it.

Also, notice that I’ve touched anything in terms of mastering, i.e. the volume, pan, equalizer or anything, so the actual mix is subpar.

But anyway, here’s more talking. The percussion is supremely basic because I didn’t really want to focus on it. If it’s too repetitive/boring and it’s making you rip your hair out, lemme know and I’ll see what I can come up with.

As for the bass, I think it’s one of the aspects I’m most satisfied with. I realize the chord progression for the song only spans like, 4 notes, and it repeats every measure, but I like slow, meandering, buzzing, bass so much.

The strings were kinda hard to compose because I suck at melodies that don’t sound cheesy.

But oh well, it’s not bad for a first song.

I honestly wish it were a little longer, but that’s just me. I always get a little antsy when stuff I like clocks in at around 2 minutes.

I think once you master it, if you bring the hi-hat down, it’ll blend in very nicely with the chill/ambient sound you’re going for.

Other than that, I like it. It’s definitely something I would put in my playlist— I love drone guitar and lulla-bass more than anyone I know. :p

That reminds me, I had a dream once upon a time of a song, I need to tell you about it.

Sweet :D I wanted to extend it some more, but the middle portion might get repetitive, but I can see how it would work, slipping into the background into a good groovy lull like any good chillout does.

I was thinking of doing some VG music remixes because I always love those :P but I’m looking for inspiration for original pieces where ever I can get it. I think once I’m done with this one the next piece will focus mostly on percussion.

Pretty badass. I’m with Alex on the note that it should be longer: especially in a chill/groove song. Once you get everything down and master the levels a bit it’ll be solid.

Which program are you using to compose? Obviously it’s a linux program that might not have a windows version or an equivalent but I’d still like to know. I miss making music…even if I was never that good at it ;)

Actually, I’m using FL Studio. I just installed it on Rhi’s computer and I hop on that whenever I wanna make music.

sounds very Castlevania to me… and I think that’s a good thing.

Use Drum-kit from hell for drum samples. You’ll get much more realistic sounding drums.
